Tattoo Ink Certificates
Manufacturers, importers and distributors have lately published a number of different certificates.
The content and its benefits are so diverse that we want to provide a small summary to explain
what certificates actually are relevant to whom.
1. Declarations of Conformity (color certificates) are important for fina customers,
which mean those who want to get tattooed. Because the declaration ensures that the color
was produced according to the EU Resolution and TVO (Tattoo-Agent-Regulations) as mentioned above.
This declaration of conformity must be issued by a state-certified safety assessor.
2. Heavy metal data sheets. These data sheets are very important for the tattoo artist because it states
the amount of all heavy metals (e.g. nickel) contained. Therefore the tattoo artist can take
the necessary precautions and avoid allergies by avoiding the concerning colors.
3. BVL declarations are basically useless for the assessment of a tattoo color. It is
only a confirmation of registration without any further informative value concerning the ingredients
and marketability (this certificate is not relevant for tattooists and final customers).
4. The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is for importers, transporters and
people who store or transport the colors. In the event of a fire or an accident, the
proper precautions can be assessed for personal safety. Registration of the colors
in other countries will be made with the BVL declaration (this certificate is not
relevant for tattooists and final customers).
These are the certificates relevant for tattooists and final customers:
