Grips & Tips

Just like with tattoo machines and tattoo needles, every tattoo artist has their own preferences when it comes to grips and tips. The use of appropriate grips depends heavily on the machine.

For example, a Cheyenne Hawk works wonderfully with a matching Cheyenne Hawk grip in 21 or 25 mm made of aluminum, the Hawk grip as a Flex Grip with or without a needle bar in 21 and 25.4 mm, or the Cheyenne Hawk Fixed Grip made of aluminum, which works without stroke depth adjustment.

The selection continues: EGO grips have been specially designed for use with Cheyenne machines, and Bishop Rotary joins the lineup with its aluminum Fantom Tubes in grip thicknesses of 1 and 1.25 inches. Try them out and find your tattoo grip!

In general, there are either disposable or reusable products made of plastic, aluminum, or stainless steel. Reusable grips can be cleaned in an autoclave—the manufacturers Morphix and Right Stuff are sure to be of interest to you here. Please only steam sterilize Morphix products up to 135 degrees.

TATFORMANCE Grips and Tips, made in Berlin, are popular for their non-slip rubber, which ensures that the tattoo machine lies securely in your hand. Available in sizes 25 mm and 30 mm and always with the configuration code stamped on them to prevent mix-ups. The transparent tip gives you a clear view of the amount of tattoo ink remaining. The tips are available as diamond tips, round tips, and flat tips.

Inkjecta offers grips for both single-use and reusable use. For the Inkjecta Flite X1, the Inkjecta X1 Disposable Ergo single-use grips add color to your studio—available in packs of 10 and compatible with all needle modules. You can find the reusable counterpart in our shop under the name Inkjecta X1 Ergo grip in Black Ally, Black Delrin, and White Delrin versions. The round-shaped Chubby grip and the Fixed Grip V2 from Inkjecta – made of aluminum or stainless steel – are also compatible with all tattoo needle modules and, thanks to the end tube, suitable for many rotary or coil machines. The Australian company offers two models, both of which are autoclavable: the Rubber Grip Cover – available in a double pack – and the heavy stainless steel Grip Cover for the Cheyenne Hawk 21 mm grip.

Elephant Tattoo Products enters the race with two foam grips in grip thicknesses of 1 and 1.5 inches. Very soft, they offer the perfect grip. Always equipped with a needle bar and compatible with all needle modules. Elephant is a supplier of high-quality tattoo accessories. The tube is equipped with an end tube, while the EGO Hawkflow Grip has a twist mechanism for adjusting the needle depth—EGO is a pioneer in the tattoo market with this adjustment mechanism.

Some questions we are often asked:

Can Cheyenne grips be placed in an instrument disinfection bath or autoclave (steam sterilizer)?

No, please do not do this under any circumstances. The grips may only be cleaned with a cloth and disinfectant. Detailed instructions can be found on the package insert or on the MT Derm/Cheyenne website.

Can I also use my Round Liner tattoo needle with Diamond grips or tips?

Yes, you can. Some tattoo artists even prefer the Diamond version, as the needle is said to sit a little cleaner in the V-shape. In addition, the tips are slightly bevelled at the front, giving you a good view of the needle when tattooing.

What is the difference between a Flex and a Fix Grip?

With the Flex Grip, you can adjust the needle position easily and individually on the handle. Simply turn the handle to do this. With a Fixed Grip, the handle is loosened on the machine itself to adjust the needle position.
